Depending on the needs of your child, academic support can take many forms. It can be a stand alone service provided by a special education teacher or can be incorporated into services by other providers. Using school based assignments, the primary goal will be to improve the student’s performance in reading, writing, and/or math.

Reading support can focus on:

• decoding (phonics)

• sight words

• reading fluency

• reading comprehension

Writing support can focus on:

• encoding (spelling)

• sentence writing

• paragraph writing and/or longer essays.

Math support can focus on:

• math fluency

• calculations and/or problem solving.
