Mission Statement:

We believe all children can learn. Every child has a superpower that can be unlocked and activitated so that they can reach their true potential.

Services Provided: We interview caregiver(s), review previous evaluations, reports,and background history. Some additional assessments may be provided if needed. Then we meet directly with the primary caregiver(s) and the child to discuss and establish a treatment plan to determine which services will best address the child’s area of challenge.

Assessments might include:  Sensory processing, ocular motor control, postural control/stability, motor coordination, visual perception, visual motor skills, executive function, expressive and receptive language, articulation, pragmatic language skills, functional communication, literacy, and/or math.

Treatment/Consultation in the areas of: Depressed self regulation, depressed social emotional skills, delayed receptive and expressive language skills, delayed articulation skills, decreased functional communication, executive function deficits, motor incoordination, visual perception/visual motor deficits, poor handwriting, assistive technology needs, literacy, and/or math.

Workshops/lectures/courses Presented nationally to parents, caregivers, teachers, daycare providers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and other professionals in the areas of sensory processing, communication, motor development, and executive functioning: “Learning is Child’s Play”; “Sensory Diet for the Classroom”; “Executive Functioning for Successful Students”; “Building Blocks for Learning” and “Practical and Effective Strategies to Improve Self-Regulation and Executive Functioning Skills”

Where services are provided: Homes, schools, community settings such as daycare centers in the metro west, north, and south of Boston.

When: After school, evenings, weekends, school vacation weeks, and/or summer

Cost: Fee for service. Rates are established by each individual provider and available upon request

Jocelynn B. Wallach, OT, MS, OTR has been working as a pediatric occupational therapist for over 45 years. She has worked in the community, including early intervention, hospitals, and schools. She was hired as a consultant and practitioner to develop the pediatric occupational therapy departments for the Brockton Visiting Nurses Association, Braintree Rehabilitation, and New England Sinai Hospital. She has been an associate professor at Boston University, and an adjunct instructor at Framingham and Worcester State Colleges. In addition, she has lectured and/or taught classes on Child Development, Sensory Processing Disorders, and Executive Functioning at a variety of venues including the Northeast Regional Conference on Autism, the Barn Yard Child Care Center, Holliston Public Schools and Westwood Public Schools. Presently, she is maintaining her own private practice and continues to lecture nationally. In addition, she is one of the co-authors of the book “Declassify Your Superpowers: How to Succeed in School and Be Happy”.

Nancy L Williamson, M.Ed. CCC/SLP, has been working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist for more than 35 years.  She has specialized in working with children in educational settings from preschool through high school, and in private practice.  She has presented lectures, training seminars, and professional development courses for teachers, instructional assistants and parents, in a variety of venues, including the Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Conference, the Westwood Public Schools, and the Dedham Parents' Group. She has been employed in the Westwood Public Schools for the past 25 years, and has served on the Westwood Public Schools Literacy Committees on Phonological Awareness Training, and Best Practices in Vocabulary Instruction. She recently co-taught the professional development course for Westwood teachers on “Executive Function Skills”, with Jocelynn B Wallach, OT, MS, OTR. She is a contributor to the development of professional seminars on “Self-Regulation and Executive Function Skills” presented by Jocelynn B. Wallach, OT, MS, OTR nationwide. In addition, she is one of the co-authors of the book “Declassify Your Superpowers: How to Succeed in School and Be Happy”.

 

Joan M. Teebagy, MS, Ed. received her B.A./B.Ed. in Child Studies from Brock University in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada and an M.S.Ed. in Learning and Behavioral Disorders from Buffalo State University in Buffalo, New York. She has been a special education teacher in New York State and Massachusetts for 35 years.

   In her 30 years as a special education teacher in Massachusetts, Joan  has taught students from kindergarten through high school with most of her career at the elementary level. She has provided both in-class support and pull-out specialized instruction, as well as co-taught classes, for students with a range of disabilities including specific learning disabilities, physical and communication disorders, attention disorders, mild to moderate behavioral disorders, and mild autism spectrum disorder.  

Joan presented professional development courses for the Westwood special education teachers related to formal academic testing, and introducing new subject area strategies and tools. 

      Joan served on various public school committees including an Educator Effectiveness Guidebook for Inclusive Practice Partners Project; District-Wide Math Review Curriculum Committee; District K-5 Transition Committee; and School Leadership. In the early 1990s, while at home for five years with her three young children, Joan remained involved with educational pursuits, heading a curriculum committee that published educational materials. In addition, Joan is one of the co-authors of the book “Declassify Your Superpowers: How to Succeed in School and Be Happy”.

 

Nancy A. Malatesta, LCSW, NCC, C.A.G.S., has been working in the field of counseling psychology in a school setting for over 40 years, spanning preschool to the graduate level. For the past twelve years, she served as the preschool psychologist for the Westwood Public Schools Integrated Preschool, conducting comprehensive developmental social-emotional assessments, observations, and consultations to private preschools, as well as direct service to children, along with supportive consultation for families/caregivers. As an adjunct professor at Quincy College, she taught a course in child and human development for early childhood educators and nursing students. While a member of the graduate behavioral science adjunct faculty of Fitchburg State University, she taught coursework for training elementary school guidance counselors. She was a contributing chapter editor on writing preschool assessments in Assessing and Screening Preschoolers – Psychological and Educational Dimensions, Second Edition by Ena Vazquez Nuttal, Ivonne Romero, and Joanne Kalesnik. Nancy began her counseling career as a school adjustment counselor in Franklin before advancing her training to become a school psychologist.
