Daily Routines Can Be Very Therapeutic:

First and foremost, you are all in my thoughts. We can do this together even though we are apart.

I know you are probably overwhelmed, but I believe that we can take advantage of this opportunity to make things easier for you. These are activities to increase students’ independence, so let’s get started.

Keep in mind that your child should be asked only to complete 3-5 items at a time such as “pick up 3 red toys” or “you pick up the first 3 and then they pick up the last two”. They will be more motivated. Also, start by saying: “let’s do it together”.

Set up routines: see handouts at end of the document

Get your child involved in daily responsibilities such as:

●    Heavy work household activities: carrying laundry, stacking cans, pushing a vacuum, washing down walls, dusting, sweeping, washing dishes, straighten up bedroom/playroom while sorting and counting;

●    Fine Motor Activities: My favorites are cooking and gardening.

○    Kitchen activities: make knots in the plastic bags, fold paper bags, put a rubber band around the container of fruit, use  twist ties to close bread,use clips to close snack bags, twist open and close jars of food,

○    Dressing: hang up clothes, dress a snuggley, dress up with adult clothes and practice fasteners, practice shoe tying -   Ian's shoetying

○    Cooking: This is a youtube channel by a 7th grader in Utah that helps kids learn basic elements of cooking.
